(1) White Sands National Monument
Today was a chill day, so we slept in and got some coffee at Plateau Expresso. It was a nice little joint with friendly staff and art for sale on the walls. This was my favorite piece:
"Chris Through the Eyes of Chris" -- $3968.48 -- Media type: Felt Pen on Scratch Paper"
Our big trip for the day was to the White Sands National Monument! The sands were sooooo white that we had to put sunscreen on our chins and nostrils, or else they would get burned from the sunlight reflecting off of the sand!
Possible Bleached Earless Lizard tracks. I'm pretty sure we saw a snake buried under the sand while we were walking, but we fled instead of taking a picture. O_O Sorry.
There's a sarlacc pit in there somewhere, I swear.
This plant was called Bush Hoary Rosemary Mint. Apparently it has adapted to this climate in a way that allows its roots to tighty weave around the Gypsum sand, making "pedastals". It does this so that when the wind blows the sand dunes away, the roots will stay in tact and the plant can continue to grow!
A KOA staff member was kind enough to loan us boards so we could sled on the sand dunes...
