The plan was to wander around New Orleans, Louisiana (NOLA)! We ended up going to...
(1) Cafe Beignet
(2) Shops down Bourbon and Dumaine St
(3) French Quarter Flea Market
(4) French Quarter and Cemetery Walking Tour (Thank you to John Doheney, our tour guide!)
(5) French Market Restaurant
Cajun Hashbrowns with eggs and toast, beignets, and iced coffee
Live Music!
Lots of gator heads and gator back-scratchers for sale at the French Quarter Flea Market!
Our tour guide told us that in the 1850's, Yellow Fever struck New Orleans hard. One of the symptoms is coma; however, back in the day people didn't understand comas very well and just assumed they were dead. Common practice was to pile your dead in the streets, and sometimes people would awaken from their comas with severe brain damage. Aaaand that's where some of the zombie myths in NOLA came from! :D
The tomb of Marie Laveau, the Voodoo Queen
Nectar-flavored snowball and boiled peanuts
Our one-legged friend!
As we walked down the streets of New Orleans, this crazy-awesome smell hit us all of the sudden. We followed our noses and found that this restaurant had an open window that lead to the pot where one of the chefs was cooking! Great advertising -- it worked!
Swamp Platter: crawfish etouffee, blackened alligator, frog legs, and maque choux
My froggy legs! They were my favorite! :O
We are exhausted and a little sunburnt after walking around all day, but it was so much fun!!
